Cayin is the audio brand of Zhuhai Spark Electronic Equipment Co., Ltd., founded in 1993 and long known for vacuum-tube amplifiers and CD players for the home. It moved into personal audio in 2013 with the N-series digital audio players, and has since built a portable line — dongles, portable amplifiers and in-ear monitors — around discrete converter designs rather than off-the-shelf DAC chips, from the R2R ladder of the RU6 to the 128-resistor 1-bit circuits of the N7 and RU7.
