Reviewers broadly accept that its lower midrange is scooped — every measurement rig shows the same deep dip near 500 Hz — that it needs almost no power, and that a few bands of EQ transform it. They divide on almost everything else: whether the tuning is a fun, well-judged V or an uneven one, whether the bass is weighty or swamping, whether the top end is harsh, smooth or veiled, whether the light clamp fits your head, whether it isolates like a closed-back, and whether $149 makes it a bargain or an easy pass. About this product

The original 2021 Robin — not the later SV021 Pro, and not the SV021 Pro V2, which Sivga has confirmed is a revision of the Pro rather than of this headphone. Sold in a glossy light rosewood (brown) and a darker satin black finish; no source reports a sonic difference between them.

Sivga's SV021 Robin arrived in 2021 as the cheapest full-size closed-back the Dongguan maker had built: machined wood cups, a 50 mm in-house dynamic driver, memory-foam pads soft enough that one reviewer warned readers not to eat them, and a detachable cable — for $149. It looked like a $400 headphone and priced like an impulse buy, and five years on it is still sold at that price.

It also became one of the most argued-about budget headphones of its generation, and one of the best measured: seven independent rigs have published its response, a popular video reviewer called it the only closed-back he would recommend for fun listening, and one writer published the maker's request that he not share his negative verdict beyond his own blog. What follows is where all of those readings land.

A good fit for

  • Listeners who want a warm, bass-forward, fun closed-back for electronic, rock, film and games and do not mind colour
  • People who care how a headphone looks and feels as much as how it measures
  • Medium heads that suit the light clamp, and anyone who has found other pads too firm
  • Listeners willing to run a few bands of EQ, which is where the measurement sources say it comes alive
  • Desk or couch use from a dongle, DAP or laptop, where nothing extra is needed to drive it

Think twice if

  • You want neutral or reference tuning out of the box

Sources split on whether the same curve is a feature or a fault. About three fifths by weight — TechPowerUp, Pragmatic Audio, Trusted Reviews, Headfonics, Zeos, Gadgetry Tech and most of the Head-Fi reviewers — hear a deliberately fun, warm-to-V tuning that works. The rest — Audio Science Review, Soundphile Review, The Audio Stuff, the ASR thread and several Head-Fi and Reddit owners — hear an uneven tuning that is simply wrong out of the box. Nobody disputes the shape; seven rigs agree on it.

ASR's GRAS plot and Pragmatic Audio's KB501X read the same shape; on ASR a member's Harman-preference estimate rose from 34.9 stock to 78.4 with EQ.
