Sennheiser finally fixed the noise cancelling. What reviewers still can't agree on is the bass, the top end, and whether $400 is a bargain or a stretch.

The over-ear wireless noise-cancelling headphone Sennheiser announced on 25 May 2026 and shipped on 16 June ($399.95 / £329, ~290 g, black, white, denim and later bronze and lavender): the same 42 mm dynamic driver as the MOMENTUM 4 but retuned, an all-new hybrid ANC array with eight microphones (four per side, double the 4's), SBC / AAC / aptX / aptX Adaptive / aptX Lossless over Bluetooth 5.4 with Snapdragon Sound and multipoint, Dolby Atmos with head tracking, an 8-band EQ in the Smart Control Plus app, wired 3.5 mm and USB-C audio, up to 57 hours with ANC on — and, new to the line, a user-replaceable battery behind four Philips screws in the left cup. Not the 2022 MOMENTUM 4 Wireless it replaces, not the pricier HDB 630 that sits above it, and not the MOMENTUM True Wireless 5 earbuds that share the name.

Four years is a long gap in wireless headphones, and Sennheiser spent all of it on the same problem: the MOMENTUM 4 Wireless sounded lovely and cancelled noise only adequately. The MOMENTUM 5 keeps the 42 mm driver and the marathon battery, doubles the microphone count for ANC, and adds the thing enthusiasts have been asking every manufacturer for — a battery you can swap yourself with a Philips screwdriver.

The press reception has been close to unanimous: awards, five stars for sound, praise for the runtime. Dig underneath and the agreement thins out. The same tuning gets called visceral, over-rich and oddly tepid by three different reviewers; the treble is either beautifully smooth or short of air; and the one lab that grades on value calls the whole thing a harder sell than the Sony and Bose flagships it now costs the same as.
