HIFIMAN Arya Unveiled

The Arya that stopped being bright — loved for its balance, argued over for its bass, its stage and its plastic.

HIFIMAN Arya Unveiled

The short version

What to know.

An open-back planar tuned close to neutral: flat bass to 20 Hz, a fuller midrange than earlier Aryas, and the gentlest treble in the line. Sources agree on precise imaging, strong detail, a natural midrange and very good comfort. They split on whether the flat bass and dynamics are clean or lean, on the treble (smooth to most, a 5 kHz edge to the measurement-led minority, too safe to a few), on whether the stage is large or merely smaller than other Aryas, and on value. The plastic build and exposed drivers are the most common complaint.

About this product

The grille-less Arya from late 2024 — not the Arya Organic (2023), the Arya Stealth Magnet Version (2021) or the Arya WiFi. 'Unveiled' means there is no rear grille or screen: the magnet array is the only thing over the back of the driver, and the box includes magnetic plastic 'veils' to cover the drivers between sessions (they are not for listening — they wreck the sound). It also uses new pad clips, so earlier Arya and HE1000 pads don't fit. Launched at $1,449; HIFIMAN's own store has sold it at $1,199 since late 2025, and some dealers go lower.

HIFIMAN's Arya Unveiled is the latest turn of the egg-shaped Arya, the open-back planar that sits between the brand's budget Ananda and its HE1000 flagships. It is the cheapest of the 'Unveiled' models, which drop the rear grille entirely and leave the magnet array as the only thing between the diaphragm and the room — a design meant to remove reflections, and one that ships with magnetic covers you clip on whenever the headphone is off your head.

The bigger change is the tuning. Where the Arya Organic added a bass shelf and a lot of treble, the Unveiled goes the other way: flat bass, a filled-in midrange and a much tamer top end. Reviewers broadly call it the most neutral HIFIMAN in years. What they argue about is whether that neutrality costs the line its scale and slam, and whether glossy plastic and an exposed driver are worth the asking price — which has already fallen from $1,449 to about $1,199.

A good fit for

  • Listeners who like the HIFIMAN planar sound but found earlier Aryas too bright
  • Vocal, acoustic, jazz and classical listeners — the filled-in midrange is the point
  • Treble-sensitive listeners who still want a big open planar
  • EQ users: flat bass to 20 Hz takes a shelf cleanly, and a small cut near 5 kHz addresses the main measured complaint
  • Long-session comfort seekers, including people with large heads and ears

Think twice if

  • You want slam and bass weight out of the box for rock, metal or EDM — the Arya Organic suits that better
  • You loved the Organic's or Stealth's giant stage and treble sparkle
  • You expect metal and wood at this price, or worry about an exposed driver on a busy desk, around pets or kids
  • You're sensitive to a 5 kHz presence peak and won't use EQ
  • You need isolation, or want to listen anywhere but a quiet room

2 Strong agreement5 Mostly agree5 Divided opinions

Common ground9

  • The most neutral, balanced HIFIMAN tuning in years — a clear break from the bright Arya house sound.
  • The midrange is the standout: the HIFIMAN upper-mid dip is largely filled in, and vocals and timbre are the best of any Arya.
  • Precise imaging and clean separation.

Points of contention5

  • Bass: deep, clean and enough, or flat and lean enough to need a shelf — split almost evenly, largely by which headphone the listener is coming from.
  • Treble: smooth and fatigue-free to most, edgy around 5 kHz to the measurement-led minority, too safe and short of air to a few.
  • Soundstage: large and holographic, or big but noticeably more intimate than the Aryas before it.

Broad agreement that this is the most neutral, balanced HIFIMAN in years — a deliberate step away from the bright house sound and from the Arya Organic's shelf-and-sparkle tuning. The dissent is about taste, not shape: a few listeners hear that neutrality as dry, safe or short on emotion.

“I say the Arya Unveiled is probably the most neutral HIFIMAN set I've tried”

TechPowerUp (VSG)

“these are a wonderfully grownup sounding headphone they don't try to impress with bright treble”

Passion for Sound (video)

“Unfortunately, the Arya Unveiled disappointed me.”

Measured

Seven rigs agree on a near-flat line from 20 Hz to 1 kHz, a filled-in 1–3 kHz region, a presence rise of about 9 dB at 3–5 kHz (similar to an HD 600 on the same rigs) and a top octave below the earlier Aryas'. Resolve's HpTF band shows little head-to-head variation.

What to keep in mind 6

  1. A read of where the reviews land as of October 2026. The Arya Unveiled launched in late 2024, and HIFIMAN keeps adding Unveiled models and cutting prices around it.

  2. The price has fallen from $1,449 to about $1,199, and further at some dealers. Many of the value complaints were written at the launch price.
