Independent bench measurement puts SINAD around 72 dB (THD+N ≈ 0.025%), matching FiiO's own spec and far below the ~110–120 dB of competent delta-sigma DACs at the price — by modern numbers the R2R converter is low-fidelity. TechPowerUp's bench review lands in the same place, calling it 'a basic implementation which doesn't give you that organic taste higher end R2R DACs do.'
⚠ vs. listeners — The graph says colored and low-fidelity; subjectivists frame the same coloration as pleasant warmth and 'naturalness.' As Headfonia puts it, R2R designs 'typically measure worse in these areas, but such measurements are not always an accurate reflection of real-world performance' — measurement constrains what's physically there, preference governs how it lands.
