Wharfedale is a British loudspeaker maker founded in 1932 by Gilbert Briggs, who built his first loudspeaker in the cellar of his home in Ilkley, Yorkshire, and named the company after the surrounding valley of the River Wharfe. Owned since 1997 by the International Audio Group (IAG), it designs its speakers in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, and builds most of them in IAG's own factory in China; its budget Diamond series dates from 1982.

The big retro three-way that measures far better than it looks — and splits listeners on whether 'easy' means natural or a little too polite.

The budget-standmount benchmark, refreshed without a UK price rise — warm, weighty and easy, with a top end some find too polite.

The budget standmount that labs and magazines both rate — with a deliberate midrange dip people either love or EQ away.
