Keith McMillen Instruments (KMI) is the Berkeley, California controller maker that Keith McMillen (1957–2024) — founder of Zeta Music and, at Gibson's G-WIZ lab, developer of the ZIPI protocol that led to Open Sound Control — established in 2005 to build instruments around its Smart Fabric force sensors: the SoftStep and 12 Step foot controllers, the QuNeo pad controller, the QuNexus and K-Board keyboards, the BopPad and the K-Board Pro 4 MPE keyboard. After McMillen's death in August 2024 the company rebranded as Muse Kinetics in September 2024, keeping the same Berkeley base and continuing the line under both names.
