KEF is a British loudspeaker maker founded in 1961 in Maidstone, Kent, by BBC engineer Raymond Cooke, and named after Kent Engineering & Foundry, the firm on whose site it began. Owned since 1992 by GP Acoustics, part of Hong Kong's Gold Peak group, it builds passive and wireless hi-fi speakers, subwoofers and headphones around its coaxial Uni-Q driver, introduced in 1988.
KEF's sound in a bigger box, with deeper bass and a phono stage, for less than the LSX II LT. Reviewers love it; they argue over how warm it is, how it copes quietly or in big rooms, its phono input, and an app owners curse.
